Last season, he scored 195 points to finish as the 9th best midfielder in the game, level with impressive Chelsea winger Pedro.

His contribution of six goals and nine assists is steady, but he is one to benefit massively from the ‘Kante Rule’. It gives him extra value as he plays in a team that presses and looks to win the ball back quickly.

As a midfield option that can score, assist and score points through the Kante rule, Wijnaldum is an appealing choice when it comes to draft day.

On the other hand, there are risks involved when selecting the Dutchman. The first being that it is impossible to predict how Liverpool will look at the end of the transfer window.

If they manage to sign Naby Keita, a possibility reported by The Guardian, and keep Coutinho, they will have an array of exciting midfield options, which could restrict the Dutchman’s playing time.

There would certainly be rotation and would he get enough minutes to be a viable fantasy option?

Possibly, but it would be a risk to take him early. As a second or third midfielder, Wijnaldum could be a good pick-up, but as an early pick, he does not offer a guarantee of points.
