The first weekend of the Premier League was full of surprises as Chelsea faced opening day defeat whilst Liverpool were also held by Watford. That had an impact on Draft Fantasy Football as a number of big names failed to produce in the opening weekend. Here are five of the biggest disappointments:

FPL Draft

Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

One of the top picks in defence, Cahill had a disastrous start to the campaign. His red card less than 20 minutes into the game not only doomed Chelsea to defeat but also saw him earn -2 points in a catastrophic result for many Draft Fantasy managers who have picked the experienced defender.

Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

The creative midfielder struggled for regular football last season. Many picked him this campaign knowing that he would start alongside N’Golo Kante as first choice and could nail down a regular spot. Instead, he got himself sent off and earned a disappointing -1 points.

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

The highest average draft position of any player at 3.1, Kane scored just one point for Tottenham as he fired wide and fired high, missing several sitters. Given his track record of slow starts to the season, taking as long as eight games to open his account, his form may be a concern.

James Milner (Liverpool)

The 9th most popular defender, Milner wasn’t even first choice for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Watford. Alberto Moreno was surprisingly preferred after an impressive pre-season, and Milner only entered the fray as a late substitute and was even on the field as Liverpool conceded a late equaliser to earn a mere one point.

FPL Draft

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Any Draft Fantasy Football manager knows that rotation is a risk when picking Manchester City players, but few would have expected Sterling to be on the bench on the opening day. When he did come on, he got himself booked to earn a disappointing zero points for a number of managers.
