We’re approaching the midway stage of the 2017/18 Premier League season and fantasy football fans should consider using their wildcard ahead of the busy festive period. A decent number of players may have already played the wildcard, which allows unlimited transfers during a set game week, earlier in the campaign, but here are a few tips on who to target for those who are yet to take advantage of the wildcard.

Kevin De Bruyne is a Must-Have

Manchester City have been unbelievable so far this season and Kevin de Bruyne’s form is a big reason for their dominance in the early stages of the campaign. The Belgian, tipped by many to be named the 2017/18 PFA Player of the Year, has scored a couple of important goals whilst racking up six assists in 11 top-flight appearances.

At £10.1 million on the official Fantasy Premier League website, he is on the expensive side but he can take your team to the next level. Quickly becoming one of the most popular players in England’s top flight, you cannot afford to miss out on De Bruyne’s consistently high scoring.

Mohamed Salah: Liverpool’s Main Man?

From a fantasy perspective, Liverpool have been a gold mine in recent years. The Reds have failed to inspire confidence defensively but Liverpool’s attacking stars tend to perform well in most fantasy formats over the course of a Premier League season.

Arguably the signing of the summer, Salah looks settled at Anfield and he could be Liverpool’s difference maker this season. At the time of writing, the bookmakers have the Reds at 11/10 to finish in the top four at the end of the campaign and Klopp’s side will feature prominently in 2018’s Premier League football tips. Salah is surely going to be central figure to their aspirations – another must pick-up on fantasy.

Tammy Abraham Doing the Business for Swansea?

With four Premier League goals this season, Abraham ranks as one of Swansea’s top players this campaign – he is actually seventh on the list of strikers for overall points. Sitting above the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Wayne Rooney and Roberto Firmino, Abraham is a bargain at £5.9 million.

If Swansea are going to avoid relegation, they will need Abraham to be at his brilliant best for the remainder of the campaign and Paul Clement will continue to trust the England youngster to lead the line on a weekly basis. He isn’t going to score 20+ this season but a decent return for a low-cost player represents solid value.

Bonus Advice – Drop All West Ham players!

West Ham’s December schedule is frightening. With clashes against Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, it looks set to be a difficult start to life at London Stadium for David Moyes. If you own any West Ham player, it might be a good idea to cash in now – the Hammers have struggled during the early stages of the campaign and it will probably get worse before it gets better.

Some clubs tend to improve instantly when a new manager is appointed but it is hard to place too much faith in Moyes; his recent record is nothing to get excited by.
