Marcos Alonso came moments away from being the hero for Chelsea against Arsenal in the last Premier League game week as the Blues were pegged back to a 2-2 draw against their London rivals.

After the Spaniard gave Antonio Conte’s side the lead with a brilliantly timed run and first time finish, Hector Bellerin’s late, late equaliser for the hosts ensure the points were shared at the Emirates Stadium.

Alonso’s midweek involvement served to improve an already impressive record in the Premier League. Indeed, since his arrival at the start of last season, he has been directly involved in 16 goals (12 goals, 4 assists), four more than any other English top flight defender.

This quite clearly makes him an excellent Draft Fantasy option, should he be available in your mini-league. With 160 points to his name already this season, he is the leading defender in the game and the third highest scoring player overall.

With only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne bettering him for points, it is fair to say the Spaniard is in the fantasy form of his life. His latest cameo against Arsenal saw him return seven points –  and he is yet to score lower since game week 16.

Chelsea have a favourable run of fixtures in January, with a home time against Leicester City followed by Brighton (A) and Bournemouth (H). Now is the time to strike a deal for Alonso, or pick him up as a free agent if, by some miracle, he is still available.
