You might be at the top of your league every week, but it is inevitable that challenges will pop up along the way. Challenges that have nothing to do with your lightning intuition. One major challenge most of us face at some point is managing a team while travelling. While we’d all like our business trips and holidays not to coincide with Premier League football, we don’t always have a choice.
And while you can manage your team from anywhere in the world, there are a few bumps along the road to look out for.

Make sure you can watch the games

The Premier League is the world’s most popular football league, and worldwide coverage is proof of this. However, there are countries which don’t show Premier League matches. And even in those that do, you won’t necessarily have access to that coverage from your hotel room.

Also, if you have to watch the match delayed because of a meeting or because of the time difference, chances are you won’t catch repeats on channels outside the UK.

To ensure you have access to watch the Premier League from anywhere, you’ll need to subscribe to a virtual private network (VPN). These are nifty pieces of software that secure your data, along with masking your location. They will route your connection through an external server, and by choosing a server in the UK, broadcaster websites will think you’re home.

High-speed internet

Of course, for this purpose you’re going to need high-speed internet. This is not always a given, especially in regions which are a bit behind on infrastructure development. If you’re not going to have high-speed internet available at your hotel, find out where you can get access. There’s nothing more frustrating than desperately searching for connectivity while the clock is ticking.

Account for the time difference

There are planners, whose teams are set up, with a plan B, C, and D in case of injuries, ahead of time. And then there are those of us who wait until the last minute to put the finishing touches on our teams. Waiting for the last minute isn’t always a problem, but when you’re outisde the country you might just miscalculate.

You’ll need to stay aware of the time difference, and actually plan so that you get all your changes done on time. Then you can make your schedule around the times of the matches, so that you don’t miss a second.

Compromise

If you’re going away with your partner or family, you might face some resistance to your insistence on watching football. You’re meant to be “relaxing” and spending time with your loved ones.

Be ready to compromise, but do so strategically. Know which games you’re willing to sacrifice and offer those up as proof of your commitment. Then keep track of the rest guilt-free.

Don’t stress out if your fantasy team takes a bit of a hammering while you’re away. Everyone is going to face road bumps at some point, and it should even out. As long as you’re the sharpest of the lot, you’ll be just fine.
