The dust has only just settled on an eventful 2016-17 football campaign, filled with peaks and troughs, successes and failures, laughter and tears. But not to worry my friends, for now it is time to wipe the slate clean and turn our attention to the new season. So much hope and expectation. Dreams to be dashed and records to be broken. A new team, a new season, a new chance for glory.
However, after such a roller coaster draft fantasy football season last year, what can we expect from the next 12 months?

Now let’s think…
- Arsenal sign a striker rather than another attacking midfielder and he becomes the number one draft pick!
- Bournemouth keep a clean sheet, just one. That would be a good starting point. Daniels then becomes a must have.
- Manchester City find a goalkeeper. Not Joe Hart…well maybe Joe Hart. No, definitely not Joe Hart.
- Manchester United end the season unbeaten, but finish mid-table as they’ve drawn every single league game 0-0. Their defenders become gold dust.
- Southampton sell every player they’ve got, rebuild and finish 9th, bringing in two unknown defenders who keep at least 10 clean sheets apiece.
- Harry Kane
- Peter Crouch scores 20 headers. Maybe…
- West Brom hit 40 points by winning their first 14 games. Fantasy managers clamber to get in their players. They then lose every single other game of the season.
- Liverpool beat every top four team by double digits, but also lose to the three newly promoted sides 5-0. Fantasy managers have no ideas what to do.
- Chelsea don’t strengthen at all (I mean…we need to keep it competitive after all!)

Now who’s to say that there’s any truth in these predictions. Perhaps my thoughts are slightly biased based on some bitter pills I’ve had to swallow in previous campaigns (why didn’t I have Kane???) …and I know I’m not alone. We can all look back on previous seasons with certain amounts of regret and numerous ‘What ifs?’ Hours of debating over every transfer and trade, tears over that benched hat trick, assessing every single detail with a fine tooth comb (but still ending up with a defender on your bench who scores two goals and keeps a clean sheet.)
But, my friends, this is not a time for reflecting on the past. No comrades, now, we look to the future. Because one thing I know for sure, Draft Fantasy Football Season 2017-18 is going to be as fun, stressful, exciting, infuriating and brilliant as it always is. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. To the victor goes the spoils…
