If early indications are anything to go by, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford could be quite some pick-up for Draft Fantasy Football managers ahead of the 2017/18 season.
The 19-year-old star, who burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal two seasons ago, impressed throughout the Red Devils’ Europa League-winning run last term, and looks set to have a major part to play for Jose Mourinho’s title-chasing side next term.

Despite the £75 million arrival of Romelu Lukaku this month, Rashford has played a starring role throughout United’s pre-season. Rather than find himself replaced by the prolific Belgian international – as many initially expected – he has found himself playing alongside the former Everton man, and to great effect.
Rashford found his game time limited last season, afforded just 16 starts, he scored five goals and created a further three for his teammates. His efforts translated into just 74 points, compared to the 188 managed by his new attacking teammate at Goodison Park.
Why could Marcus Rashford be such a good pick-up?
Early indications suggest that Rashford will play a starring role next term, be it as a wide forward, or as Romelu Lukaku’s striker partner in a two-man strike force.
For the exciting young forward, regular game time will mean more goals and more assists and, consequently, more points. If you are a Draft Fantasy Football manager, this should be music to your ears.
If played out-wide, there is naturally less value to having Rashford in your Draft Fantasy side. However, if played centrally, he is likely to dramatically increase his goals return from last season, which could see him compete with some of the very best strikers in the Premier League.
It now seems likely that rash red will be tasked with filling the void left by the departures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney. Mourinho’s faith in Rashford will be put to the test next term, but he already looking capable of stepping up to the challenge.
The Red Devils’ summer in the United States, to date, has seen three wins from three matches, with Rashford boasting a strike rate of a goal per game. Operating as a centre forward, alongside Romelu Lukaku, he has looked a real threat.
Where should he fall in your list of priorities?
It is, perhaps, unlikely that Rashford will fall under the category of being a priority throughout the opening rounds of the draft – not for most people, at least. However, he could prove to be a very wise differential when the season gets underway – potentially best as your team’s second choice of striker, or even your first, if he can continue his pre-season form.
There is an element of risk when drafting the young Englishman, as pre-season fixtures are not always a complete representation of how a team will set-up. Nonetheless, early signs suggest Rashford has a very promising season ahead of him. If you are confident in the 19-year-old’s ability, he many be worth the gamble in the earlier rounds.
