There are several players beginning to break through at their clubs and could prove to offer good options on waivers and free agency. One player that won’t be owned in a lot of leagues is Manchester United’s Ashley Young.
That isn’t a surprise as he looked an unwanted man at the beginning of the season, but he has now made successive appearances with good performances against Basel and Everton.
Although it is unknown whether he is set for a sustained run in the team, he is certainly worth considering as an option for the future weeks in both the Champions League and Premier League game modes.
On Sunday, it was a surprise that they fielded the 32-year-old at left-back, but Jose Mourinho has not been comfortable with his options in the position.
He might see Young as the best player for the job and it could be appealing to try to turn the Englishman into a similar player to Antonio Valencia, who has excelled in the full-back position.
The addition of Nemanja Matic has provided more balance to the midfield, which could facilitate a more attacking player at left-back.
His past as a winger means that he does offer a good attacking option down the left and his selection allowed Marcus Rashford to drop infield more often. Young offered the natural width, completing two dribbles and one key pass.
Earlier in the week, he showed the quality he possesses on the ball as he grabbed an assist against Basel.
If he is given a run in the team, he has a lot of attacking potential in Draft Fantasy. United have one of the best attacks in the league and he could be a differential pick to exploit that.
Mourinho is an excellent defensive coach and Young looks to be benefitting from that. He may not have been playing, but he has clearly been developing on the training ground.
The 32-year-old completed seven ball recoveries and if you are playing in a game with the Kante Rule activated, he would have earned six points. In the game he is a midfielder, which does hurt his value, but doesn’t completely destroy it.
At this early stage of his recall, it would be a risk to bring Young into your squad as he is by no means a first team regular at this stage. However, it speaks volumes that he was selected in back-to-back matches just days apart. Mourinho clearly sees a role for him and it is a risk that carries big rewards.
Manchester United are in great form and Young is likely to be one of the few first-team players that are still available in most games. If you have a midfielder that you want to get rid of, it would be worth considering the 32-year-old as a possible replacement.
