The Champions League returns this week for the second round of matches and there will be a lot of teams hoping to make up for poor results two weeks ago.
During the first round of matches, there were a lot of convincing victories for teams that are expected to go far in the competition, but one or two results were viewed as shocks.
Napoli and FC Porto are two teams that fell to surprise defeats. They will be keen to correct that this weekend.
Three to start
Dries Mertens – The Belgian forward has emerged as one of the best goal-scorers in Europe during the last 12 months. He already has six goals to his name in Serie A and plays a key role in a Napoli team that have won all their matches so far in the league. Mertens was rested during the defeat to Shakhtar, but he should start on Tuesday and will get chances against Feyenoord who are the weakest team in Group F.
Radamel Falcao – Like Mertens, the 31-year-old has entered a purple patch as he approaches the latter stages of his career. He has been a revelation since his return to Monaco and he already has 11 goals in the league, at a rate of one every 52.2 minutes. This is an incredible strike rate and he will be lining up against a Porto defence that conceded three at home during the first round of matches.
Miralem Pjanic – Juventus have a good match-up at home to a poor Olympiakos team. They have been in excellent form in Serie A and have scored eight goals in their last three matches. Paulo Dybala is an obvious pick, but Pjanic has been impressive at creating the chances for the Argentine. He has five assists in Serie A and could be a good selection this week.
Three to drop
Any Bayern Munich defender – They are usually a reliable option in the Champions League and did keep a clean sheet during the opening round of matches. However, Manuel Neuer is out injured and they will be coming up against an incredible PSG attack.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – This is perhaps a controversial one, but he is going to be coming up against Real Madrid and there are better options, some of which were discussed above. After six goals in his last three league matches, he could be used as an attractive makeweight in a trade to get a better player. Dortmund have a tough group and there will be several strikers that fare better than his during the group stages.
Antoine Griezmann – Like Aubameyang, Griezmann has a tough match-up against a strong Chelsea team and he could be a good player to offer up as a trade for a more reliable Draft Fantasy attacker. Atletico don’t score as many as the top European sides, but the Frenchman has big name value. He can be used to gain a better option for your attack.
