Ben Davies – Tottenham Hostpur
Ben Davies has recently experienced heartbreak with his national team Wales, but he is flying with his club side Tottenham. The wing-back already has two goals and three assists.
He plays a key pass in the final third every 11 minutes, which is absolutely ridiculous and puts in a cross every 19 minutes, making him the perfect teammate for Harry Kane.
The infamous Danny Rose rant looks ludicrous now. He might have to use his time on the bench to ‘Google’ and get to know his teammates better, because Davies is not giving back his place in the eleven anytime soon.
Hector Bellerin – Arsenal
If its Arsenal, it is either Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil. Maybe we can also add Hector Bellerin to that list, such has been his importance to Arsene Wenger’s side.
On an average, he makes a goal attempt from inside the opposition box every 30 minutes. He also receives the ball every two minutes. And they say he is a defender.
He makes five recoveries per game and has four clean sheets in his last four games. Looks like a very good defender that too.
Nicolas Otamendi – Manchester City
Making a Gerrard Pique out of John Stones seems doable, but making a Carles Puyol out of Nicolas Otamendi seems like the wildest of the wild dreams. Nonetheless, it looks like Pep Guardiola and his backroom staff are having a good crack at it anyway.
Otamendi makes a crucial block every 15 minutes, which is very much essential in a team made of artists. He also receives a pass almost every minute, which is certainly expected of a Guardiola defender.
While City’s full-backs were bought for big money and John Stones always had the potential, it is Otamendi who has seen the most improvement since the arrival of Pep in Manchester.
Cesar Azpilicueta – Chelsea
Cesar Azpilicueta has four assists so far this season for Chelsea. He has put in a cross every 22 minutes and, throughout the past three games, he has had a goal attempt almost every 30 minutes. All this while playing in a back three.
It is not very often that you see a player who is capable of playing anywhere across the back five and Azpilicueta, more often than not, outperforms the first choice player in that position.
Away to rock bottom Crystal Palace should be the least of his worries. Now, to try and assist someone who is not named Alvaro Morata.
Harry Maguire – Leicester City
Facing Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool within a month of the Premier League starting can be hard.
Facing them when playing in a new team, surrounded by new teammates can be even harder. Harry Maguire has had a tough start to life at Leicester City. But not all is bad.
The Englishman makes a tackle every 18 minutes and has, so far, played 23 accurate through balls. He has also made just seven fouls in his first seven games for the Foxes.
About time Leicester’s fixture list included a team outside the top six.
