Manchester United have been big spenders again this summer as they try to equip Jose Mourinho with a squad that is good enough to challenge for the Premier League.

Sky Sports report that they are close to agreeing a fee with Inter Milan for Ivan Perisic as the club try to add more goals to their midfield options.

Last season, they were too reliant on Zlatan Ibrahimovic to score goals and that is why they have tried to strengthen their attack this summer.

Romelu Lukaku looks to be a good signing, but he needs support and that is what the Croatian winger would provide.

What will Ivan Perisic bring to Manchester United?

The 28-year-old has experience at the highest level after playing in both the Bundesliga and Serie A. He has also had an accomplished career at international level and always impressed at tournaments.

Perisic is now reaching the peak years of his career and United will want him to make an immediate impact if he is signed. There won’t be a long bedding in period for him, as the club need to immediately challenge for the title and can’t afford to be carrying a player that isn’t suited to the league.

Perisic favours playing on the left in an attacking role and often looks to cut inside to attack central areas. He is right footed, which allows him to step inside and fire a shot in on goal. It is this direct threat that Mourinho wants to add to his team.

The 28-year-old is a hard worker and always looks to press opposition players. The United boss is known to demand this from each of his players and it is this tenacity that he will want Perisic to deliver in England.

During the 2016/17 campaign, he was one of the stars for an inconsistent Inter Milan team, as he contributed 11 goals and eight assists. He has quality in the final third and when coupled with his work rate, he is a good fit for a Mourinho team.

What would the signing of Perisic mean for Draft Fantasy?

There are already a core of attacking midfield players that are raising questions for Draft Fantasy players.

Given that five of the top six will be competing in the Champions League, there will be a lot of rotation and that makes it difficult to pin your hopes on certain individuals based on game-time concerns.

If Perisic does join Manchester United, he will be another attacking player that has huge fantasy value, but rotation makes it difficult to select him as a first or second draft pick.

Based on the goal threat that he offers, Perisic would be a good third round draft pick, but it would be a risk to take him in the two earlier rounds. There are known quantities that provide a safer option in the midfield.

Last season, he averaged 3.4 shots and two chances created per ninety minutes. If he signs for United as many expect, the Croatian is worth considering as a second or third midfielder. He does attack the goal and will be a threat in the final third when he is on the pitch.
