Fantasy football has officially become a cultural phenomenon in many parts of the world. With so many great platforms and resources available online, it’s the best time to join in the growing hobby. Almost every country watches football to some degree, and much like the real life sport, fantasy football allows players from different countries to compete against each other.

In Europe, you’ll find that football fans are obsessive about fantasy football. In between watching the matches of their favorite team, they spend their time pouring over statistics and looking for the value players. It seems like their hunger for the sport can never be sated. Different leagues certainly have different levels of involvement when it comes to fantasy football, but the Premier League is consistently one of the most popular to follow. Here are the most in-demand Premier League players that you will definitely want to pick up for your fantasy team.

Goalkeepers

Alex McCarthy: Southampton £4.5m

A solid strategy is to always go for a £4.5m keeper so you have money to spend on offense. There are really only two strong choices at £4.5m, McCarthy and Mathew Ryan from Brighton. All things considered, McCarthy is probably the best option and thus the most in-demand with 23.7% of all fantasy players selecting him.

Mathew Ryan: Brighton £4.5m

As suggested, Ryan is the 2nd best pick if you are looking to spend £4.5m. Brighton’s defense is somewhat lacking, but this in turn gives Ryan more opportunity for save points. He’s a strong option that is selected by 19.1% of players.

Defenders

Trent Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool £7.5m

It shouldn’t come as a shock to any Premier League fans, but Alexander-Arnold is one of the most popular picks in all of fantasy football. He is easily the most expensive defender at £7.5m, but when you consider the return he is still a steal at that price. He creates numerous goal-scoring opportunities to the extent that he rivals midfielders. Almost 55% of fantasy managers currently have Alexander-Arnold.

Matt Doherty: Tottenham Hotspur £6m

Doherty is somewhat of a value pick that has quickly drawn the attention of fantasy players. The Spurs just signed him for £15m and are hoping that he has some utility offensively and defensively. Doherty has been selected by over 25% of fantasy players that are anticipating some action from this newly acquired player.

Midfielders

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Arsenal, £12.0m

Another absolute no-brainer for fantasy players, Aubameyang is certainly one of the most popular players in the Premier League. More often than not, he is selected first overall, and has consistently been an in-demand pick. While the decision to move Aubameyang from a forward to a midfielder was questionable, this will only help his scoring ability as he now receives 5 points for every goal instead of 4. If you have the opportunity, of course, you will want to select Aubameyang.

Mohamed Salah: Liverpool, £12.0m

Since Salah’s breakout season in 2017-2018, the numbers would suggest that he has been somewhat in a downturn, but he is still an immensely popular pick with 34.2% of players selecting him. He is one of the best players in the league when it comes to play-making abilities. Last season he brought in 233 points overall. Not bad by any definition.

Forwards

Timo Werner: Chelsea, £9.5m

This year Werner is proving to be as popular a pick as Trent Alexander-Arnold with almost 50% of players selecting Werner for their squad. Notably, he is priced a little bit lower than what he truly should be at, especially if he manages to match his scoring record in Bundesliga. In the first four minutes of his Chelsea debut he scored, showing that he wastes no time on the pitch. Werner is exciting, determined, and an absolutely solid and massively popular pick across the fantasy leagues.

Danny Ings: Southampton £8.5m

Ings is a reliable and consistent forward who is guaranteed to bring a good return for his modest price tag. He scored 22 goals last season and looks to be in top shape currently. Many other players have their eye on him, but with so many strong forwards available Ings is still an obtainable selection if you make your pick at the proper time.
