With the new Premier League season just less than two weeks away now, it is highly unlikely that many Draft Fantasy Football players would have been considering Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

Just three goals in 20 Premier League appearances last season – with just seven starts – added with his never-ending injury problems doesn’t particularly suggest he is the man to bring home big points.

However, in an interview during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Germany, reported by the Telegraph, teammate Adam Lallana has said that Sturridge is looking ‘world-class’ ahead of the Reds’ opener against Watford on August 12th and believes that his return could be like ‘having two new signings’.

This is heavy praise from somebody of Lallana’s calibre and importance at Anfield, and it suggests that Sturridge may be well on his way to re-discovering his prolific form from the 2013-14 campaign.

On that occasion he scored 21 Premier League goals, his best ever return since moving from rivals Chelsea, and if he can stay fit then there is no reason why he cannot challenge this tally.

Even though it is likely that he will still be utilised more as a substitute once again this season, with Roberto Firmino preferred in the lone striking role, the impact he could have coming off the bench could cause defences serious problems, using his pace and fresh legs to stretch fatigued back-lines.

And with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah – among others – providing endless chances from the midfield Sturridge would just need to add the finishing touch.

The fact that Sturridge has remained a Liverpool player over the summer shows how much faith manager Jurgen Klopp must have in him, and this could hint at more Premier League action this season.

Although it is clear that the England international won’t hit the heights of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku this season, he could still be one of the surprise packages of the year and be a very astute pick.
