Manchester United’s Paul Pogba returned a 12 point performance as the Red Devils strolled past Stoke City at Old Trafford on Monday evening. Antonio Valencia, Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku were the goalscorers in the host’s 3-0 victory over the Potters, but it was Pogba’s night, as the Frenchman put on quite some performance.

Central to all major moments going forward, the Frenchman created four goal scoring chances in total, fashioning two assists for his Manchester United teammates. In addition to this, he completed 91% of his attempted passes, almost 2/3rds of which saw possession move forward, pushing the Red Devils deeper into Stoke territory.

Pogba’s display at Old Trafford saw him return an impressive 12 points, following his heroics in the previous game week, during which he amassed 13 against Sam Allardyce’s Everton. However, he owes a lot to his teammates for their excellent finishing and clinical nature when presented with an opportunity at goal.

To put this into context, four of the last seven chances the Frenchman has created have resulted in the ball hitting the back of the net. Compare this to last season, during which just four of the 57 chances he throughout the entirety of the campaign were converted, and it is clear to see he is benefiting from improvements in those playing around him.

Nonetheless, nothing should be taken away from Pogba. After all, he is the creator of his own fortune and he has become absolutely pivotal to Manchester United in less than 18 months since his £89 million return. Having starred against Stoke, he is now unbeaten in his last 35 Premier League matches – far more than any other player in the competition.

The former Juventus man has now been directly involved in 14 goals (four goals, 10 assists) in his last 14 appearances, which is quite some record considering the criticism that Jose Mourinho’s side have faced for a perceived lack of ambition going forward.
