Draft Answers Blog – January

The Draft Answers article for January is here to help you with your Draft Fantasy Football team! Giving you advice to keep you competitive in your league, this article features the best of Octobers’ polls, teams to target and the player to target. Finally, discover who scored the most Kante points last month.

I would also like to apologise in advance if this article comes across very Manchester United heavy. Unfortunately, with the way their players were playing under Jose Mourinho, having a new manager come in at this time of year is providing a lot of leagues the opportunity to pick up their assets. It would be amiss of me to not discuss these options with you!

Teams to target 🎯:

Everton – Leicester (H) Bournemouth (H) Southampton (A) Huddersfield (A)

Everton have attractive fixtures on paper for January. A home fixture against a Bournemouth side currently conceding goals but also scoring goals suggests finding an attacking midfielder to bring in to your Draft Team. Following that the Toffies have 2 away fixtures against a Southampton team finding their feet under new management and then Huddersfield, a team struggling to score right now.

Bernard is going to be the best available free agent in your league, owned by 14.8% on Draft Fantasy.

For the 2 away fixtures, if you fancy Everton to keep a clean sheet then Zouma at 4.8% ownership is your best option here.

Manchester United – Spurs (A) Brighton (H) Burnley (H)

An away fixture against Spurs will be worth paying attention to as this will tell us how Ole’s set-up will work against the bigger teams. If their players get attacking returns, then it really is time to start taking Manchester United seriously in Draft Fantasy Football. A clean sheet is unlikely, so you will want to consider benching any defenders aside from one player featured further on in this article.

It is at home that we have really seen a difference with Manchester United. 2 home games against Brighton and Burnley look promising for all Manchester United assets that you own, so you will want to start them or look at bringing in their unowned players. Lindelof, still only owned by 12.8% is a safe bet for a free defender, while Mata (12.8%) and Herrera (1.9%) is also advisable if you are using Kante Bonus Points – as explained later!

Players to target 🎯:

Luke Shaw

Since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Shaw has played every minute in the Premier League. With only 1 start in Jose’s final 5 games many Draft Managers had dropped him and he is now owned by 42.2% on Draft Fantasy. There are other defenders favoured by Solskjaer that have a lower percentage ownership, Jones 25% and Lindelof 12.8%, however United are still conceding goals. Their only clean sheet under the new management was in their last game against a Newcastle side that are not scoring a lot of goals. Until they start keeping clean sheets regularly Shaw may be the smart move as he provides an opportunity to get attacking returns.

If he is owned in your league there may be a deal that you can strike up with the owner.

Benjamin Mendy

Pep Guardiola has said that Mendy is 2-3 weeks away from being fully fit. This could see him return to the squad for their FA Cup 4th round tie with a return to their starting XI for the Premier League in March looking likely. It is likely that he continues where he left off with attacking returns so now is the time to consider picking him up before one of your rival managers does.

Trades to look for 🔄:

Alexis Sanchez

With United’s new-found desire to play attacking football Alexis Sanches is 1 player whose stock could soon increase. He had been sidelined in the Premier league so far, but a start in the FA Cup shows he is not very far away. Owned by (75.5% on Draft Fantasy) this may be the last opportunity to try and get him from another manager’s team.

Kante King of the Month 👑:

1) Herrera: 25 Interceptions; 23 Tackles – KB Points: 14

2) Billing KB points: 10

=3) Ndidi, Pröpper KB Points: 9

(KB – Kante Bonus)

Herrera scores 14KB points in December bringing his total up to 16 for the season. During December he also scored twice and got 2 assists. These are his only fantasy point returns al season, suggesting this new look United team is benefitting him as well. Get him in in deep leagues especially if you are using Kante Points.
