Liverpool has been the premier league runaway champions for a very long time this season, and that success can hardly be attributed to non-injury woes for their players.

Now, because of the amount of money at their disposal, the big six in the English premier league may be better placed to chum out better results than those behind them, but one thing that has not been fair to them is the level of player injury woes.

We’ve had a look at the injury records of the top six teams in the premier league in 2019-2020, and with data from the absence tracker of the Transfermarkt, we’ve made a comparison of what each is suffering. This has a big effect on how a team will perform across a season and then also who you decide to back when betting on who you think will win the league, or any other specials for that matter. • Liverpool

The biggest stars in Liverpool succeeded in avoiding injuries last season, but we can say that they’ve had the same luck this season.

At the back, regular players like Alisson Becker have been out for more than 7 weeks. The man named Joe Matip has been out for more than 12 weeks, and he is among those that have spent more time on the sidelines. Unfortunately, their backups in Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren are also out.

When you get to the midfield, people like Xherdan Shaqri, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Fabinho have also missed up to four games each.

The frontline has been their saving grace, as their lethal front three has always been there. Only Mohammed Salah has missed a game due to injury among the trio.

  • Manchester City

It is not too wrong to say that City have struggled this season chiefly because Aymeric Laporte went down with injury after the first four games, and John Stones, his fellow center back has also struggled for fitness.

Benjamin Mendy has been out for four games, Oleksandr Zinchenko has missed 5 games, and these absences made things difficult for the coach at the left back position during the season. The man named Leroy Sane suffered a serious injury while on preseason duties, and he is yet to fully recover from that, amidst the age long speculations about his transfer to Bayern Munich.

Other injury worries that City has suffered are about Sergio Aguero’s knock that kept him out for four games. Rodri was also sidelined for two premier league games in the beginning of the season.

  • Chelsea

While Frank Lampard is dealing with the inability to bring in new legs during the last two transfer seasons, he is also bedeviled by some huge injury setbacks.

A groin injury kept Antoni Rudiger out for most of the first half of the season, while some short injury layoffs were suffered by his fellow defenders like Emerson Palmieri, Reece James, and Andreas Christensen.

An achilles injury has kept Ruben Loftus Cheek out of action since last season, while a similar injury also kept Callum Hudson Odoi out of action at the beginning of the campaign.

It’s been 18 months since Marco Van Ginkel got injured, though his contribution or importance in the team may be in doubt. Also, names like Ngolo Kante and Ross Barkley have also missed at least 6 league games each.

Christian Pulisic is out for some weeks, but that may not have affected the attacking line up of the team much because players like Willian and Pedro have only been out due to injury for one game each, while Tammy Abraham has always been there.

  • Manchester United

While many people are blaming the Manchester united manager for their woes, he could be right if he points to injuries as part of the problem, because they’ve had a lot of injury layoffs this season.

Paul Pogba have only played seven games in the league all season, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly have hardly been in action this season.

Other injured players include Axel Tuanzebe that missed four games, Nemanja Matic that missed nine matches, Anthony Martial that missed five games and Luke Shaw that missed 10 games.

Not long ago, Scott McTominay also went down with injury, and because he has been very important to the team this season, it’s been a heartbreaking absence.

  • Tottenham

Mourinho has also not escaped it and can also say that injuries are among the reasons why they are where they are at the moment.

Since October, Hugo Lloris has not been in action, and that means that he has not kept the last 14 league games, while the main man at the front, Harry Kane is now out on a long term.

At the back, they’ve had Jan Vertonghen out for three games. Ben Davies has been out for nine games owing to an ankle problem, while Juan Foyth has missed six games.

Mourinho has been doubtful of Tanguy Ndombele’s fitness after he failed to play in some games this season, while the new Ryan Sessegnon arrived with an injury that saw him out for the first 10 games.

Erik Lamela was also out for nine games from October to December, while Dele Alli did not feature in the first two games of the campaign. Eri Dier also missed one game with Serge Aurier.

  • Arsenal

Injuries have also helped in keeping Arsenal down this season, with that of Kieran Tierney as one of the most significant. Owing to a hip injury, this new signing was not able to feature in the first five games of the campaign. He came back and picked another shoulder injury, and this kept him away for six more games before the suspension of the league.

Hector Bellerin was also ruled out for five games at the beginning of the season, after coming out from a knee injury. He also picked up a hamstring that has kept him away for up to seven league games. Dani Caballos also did not make nine matches for the gunners from November to January, while Lacazette and Martinelli missed four and three fixtures in the beginning of the season.

In the beginning of the campaign, Konstantinos Mavropanos also spent a long time out, though he has gone on loan to Nuremberg, he would not have been at the center of the team action.
