FPL Draft

Draft Fantasy’s innovative new feature, the so-called ‘Kante rule’, has earned praise from fans across the globe. The new rule, which rewards defenders and defensive midfielders for their defensive contributions such as tackles, interceptions and recoveries, has revolutionised the game and made the likes of Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, Southampton’s Oriol Romeu and Manchester United’s Ander Herrera high value additions.

The Kante Rule’s effect on Chelsea’s Bakayoko

They will now face competition though in the form of new Chelsea signing Tiemoue Bakayoko. The £40 million addition developed a reputation as one of Ligue Un’s most tough tackling midfielders and it is easy to see why as his defensive contributions would have earned him more points than even his new team-mate N’Golo Kante last season.

Whilst Kante would have gained an extra 87 points from the new feature, Bakayoko would have gained an additional 94 points, second only in the Premier League to Southampton’s Oriol Romeu, who ended the previous campaign with 96.

Overall, Bakayoko would have gained an impressive 171 points, two more than Kante, and significantly higher than the likes of Ander Herrera, Danny Drinkwater or Jordan Henderson, all of whom are similar midfielders playing their trade in the Premier League.

Considering his fairly clean disciplinary record, with only two yellow cards and one red card, he lost very few points, and gained many with an assist and two goals, alongside his regular game time and defensive contribution. Added into a Chelsea side who will keep more clean sheets than Leonardo Jardim’s gung-ho tactics in France, that points tally would only rise once Bakayoko dons a blue shirt.

That means that Bakayoko could become a very high scoring pick in the early rounds, especially for those looking to take advantage of the introduction of the Kante (or should that be Bakayoko?) rule. It’s worth remembering that a minor knee operation is likely to keep the 22-year-old out for the start of the season, with a September return expected, but he could still be a strong addition to any squad.
