Tottenham have struggled at times this season, due to the lack of depth in their squad. It is difficult for the team to challenge on multiple fronts, but the return of Erik Lamela provides Mauricio Pochettino with another option in attack.

He could prove to be vital to the team’s chances for the rest of the season and at the time of writing, he could be the hottest property on the Waiver wire.

At the beginning of the season, few Draft Fantasy managers would have been willing to take the Argentine due to his injury problems. He is now back and an option in the game once more.

The 25-year-old made his first start of the season during the week and built up his match fitness in the victory over Bournemouth. In his four Premier League appearances, he has contributed one assist.

Bearing in mind that the attacking midfielder has played only 123 minutes, this is an encouraging return to action.

He had been missing for over a year, therefore it would have been unfair to expect him to pull up trees right away. However, there have been encouraging signs for Tottenham supporters to cling on to.

The Tottenham attack has developed into one of the best in Europe under Mauricio Pochettino when they are firing on all cylinders. It is worthwhile investing in their attacking options and Lamela could be a risk worth taking.

Pochettino has always been a big fan and he has been a good option in Draft Fantasy before. During the 2015/16 campaign, he scored 115 points and started to find his feet in the Premier League.

The injury came at the worst possible time, but he is young enough to fight his way back into the Tottenham team and squad rotation means he will be given chances to impress.

He can make an impact from the bench as he showed against Leicester. The Argentine assisted the team’s only goal and made an impact in his short time on the pitch. He created two chances and attempted one shot in only 13 minutes.

Although he isn’t guaranteed a starting position, he is good enough to earn points from the bench. If there is a midfielder in your squad that isn’t pulling their weight, a move for Lamela could come with big rewards.

Over the Christmas period, Tottenham have some winnable matches against the likes of Burnley, Southampton, Swansea City and West Ham United.

There will be opportunities for the Spurs’ players to cash in and earn big points in Draft Fantasy. Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are the more likely to get those, but Lamela could have a role to play.
