Oliver Giroud completed a deadline day move from Arsenal to Chelsea, in a transfer that could see him become a very promising Draft Fantasy option.

Having spent six years at the Emirates Stadium, during which time he made 253 appearances and scored 105 goals, the France international signed a 18-month deal with Antonio Conte’s side, in a deal worth a reported £18 million – a bargain considered today’s market.

Joining from London rivals Arsenal in the closing day of the winter window, the Frenchman will be hoping to make a first team sport at Stamford Bridge his own, which could be of huge benefit to fantasy managers. Despite limited game time at the Emirates this term, Giroud can become the focal point of the attack that Conte desires.

Blues summer signing Alvaro Morata has largely struggled this season, and with Michy Batshuayai departing for Borussia Dortmund on loan, Giroud is now the club’s only other out-and-out striker – and the single point of competition for the faltering Spanish striker. He is likely to get his fair share of starts throughout the next few months.

Conte opted to play Eden Hazard up front against Bournemouth in Game Week 25, in an experiment that proved to be a significant failure. The Belgian hasn’t been among the goals on any occasion that this tactic has been deployed in 2017/18 and Wednesday evening was no different, with the Blues falling to a 3-0 home defeat.

Despite seeing just 374 minutes of football this campaign, Giroud has netted on four occasions, while returning an initial points score of 37 points. The Frenchman currently averages one point every 10.1 minutes, compared to the 15.22 of his new team-mate, Morata. Just 31.7% owned across all leagues, Giroud is a smart pick-up ahead of the season run-in.
