For some the return will have been glorious, for others, a harsh reminder of the trials and tribulations of daring to venture into such a cruel game as fantasy football. But rest assured, there is a long way to go and the game isn’t won in week 1, but on the waiver wire.

To help, here are some low-owned picks to consider as you look to bolster your squad ahead of Gameweek 2.

Keane (EVE)        Ownership: 10.6%

Despite a 1-0 defeat to Fulham on opening day of the season, there were signs of encouragement for Toffee’s fans and they should count themselves very unlucky to be coming away from the game with 0 points. One person in particular who should count themselves unlucky, after a dubiously disallowed goal, is Michael Keane. Owned in just 10.6% of leagues, Keane registered two attempts on goal and has a history for scoring goals during his time under Dyche at Burnley. One to watch.

Aurier (NFO)       Ownership: 4.4%

Next up is an opportunity to seek a clean sheet from Forest’s miserly home defence, up against a newly promoted Sheffield Utd who failed to score against Palace on opening day. Aina, Boly, Worrall could all make the list, but Serge Aurier passes the eye test with his time spent in the attacking third.

Cunha (WOL)      Ownership: 23,9%

If it weren’t for some woeful efforts at the business end of the pitch, Wolves could have very easily earned the upset of the weekend badge. Among Nunes, Lemina and Neto’s excellent performances, it was Matheus Cunha who gained most attention post-match having put in a superb display and showed his class as he terrorised Utd’s defence. Registering 5 shots on goal in that fixture, he will be hoping to turn shots to goals this weekend when facing a far from watertight Brighton back line.

Palmer (MCI)      Ownership: 2.5%

Since drafting this on Tuesday evening, Palmer went on to score the equaliser as City went on to win their first silverware of the season via penalty shootout against Sevilla in the Supercup. Following his similarly well-taken, though eventually less auspicious, equaliser in the Community Shield, Palmer has been the talk of the fantasy community at the tail end of the week. With just 2.5% ownership at the time of writing, Palmer could represent a great punt as a 5th midfielder in larger leagues.

Iwobi (EVE)         Ownership: 23.5%

Returning to the Toffees, I’ve plucked out one of last year’s surprise packages as my final pick in Alex Iwobi. Registering 4 shots on goal and 3 key passes, those in need of a fifth midfielder who is assured of minutes could do far worse than Iwobi and I’m tipping him for an improvement on his X points return from last season. Hop on now!

That will do it for this week. Best of luck on the waiver wire!
