Yet there’s a new kid on the block as, for the second consecutive summer, Manchester City have invested in a new number one and have brought promising prospect Ederson Moraes to England.

Arriving at the Etihad from Benfica in a £34.5 million switch he has a lot to live up to after becoming the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, and after pre-season it’s clear to see he has some potential.

At just 23-years-old he’s very agile in between the sticks, able to get down and push away shots nicely, and there’s a good chance he’ll accumulate points for making three or more saves per game.

Last season at Benfica he only conceded an average of 0.44 goals per match – superior to De Gea’s average of 0.83 and Lloris’ of 0.71 – and kept 17 clean sheets in 27 appearances in the Primeira Liga.

Individual errors from Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero were arguably what cost City at times last year, costing them clean sheet points too, and Ederson will come in and no doubt keep things tight.

Considering the further investment that has gone into City’s defence too with the likes of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy, added to the evergreen Vincent Kompany and the obdurate Nicolas Otamendi in the middle, and they should vastly improve on last year’s tally of 11 clean sheets.

Add to this the fact that Ederson is more than capable when facing a penalty, saving two in the Champions League last season, and he could begin to compile a decent amount of points for City.
