Manchester City have started the season with the intention of starting Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero as a front two. There were teething problems, but it has started to click and they look a terrifying team in the final third. On Saturday, they ran out 6-0 winners against Watford and it could have been even more. Pep Guardiola’s men had 67% possession and attempted 28 shots. They are looking like real title contenders and their two strikers are key to their chances.

They have both impressed during the opening five matches and have nine goals between them. Aguero took the headlines against Watford as he scored a hat-trick and looked back to his best. The Argentine is intelligent in the final third and rarely makes a mistake when he does get a chance in front of goal as he showed on Saturday. He has already got five this season and has contributed two assists.

On the other hand, Jesus has scored four times and has no assists to his name. In terms of shots attempted, the Brazilian is averaging 4.18 shots per ninety minutes, which is fractionally higher than Aguero (4.06). However, the Argentine international is a lot more creative than his strike partner.

The 29-year-old averages 2.86 chances created per ninety minutes, which is significantly higher than Jesus (0.56). Both strikers have a shot accuracy above 50%. These stats show the threat that they each pose individually and it is scary that Guardiola has found a system to fit both. It is a little surprising that Aguero is creating a lot as this isn’t something that has been common throughout his career. It could be that the new system has enhanced this part of his game.

Who is better to own in Draft Fantasy?

They are both great players to own as they are guaranteed to score points in a very attacking Manchester City team. After five matches, Aguero has scored 40 points, while Jesus has scored 31. There isn’t much in it, but the former has scored one more and has contributed two assists. The Argentine is a known quantity when it comes to Draft Fantasy and if they persist with this system, he is the better City striker to own.

Aguero has shown that he can score 20+ goals on a consistent basis. Although Jesus is an exciting talent, there are a lot of unknowns about his durability. He is at the start of his career and there will be dips in form. In the current system, Aguero will create as well as score goals and that gives him something extra. It is early days, but if he continues to deliver this level of performance, he could score more than 30.
