Liverpool delivered one of their best performances of the season against West Ham United at the weekend. Their pressing was back to near its best and the movement of the attackers caused all sorts of problems.

They scored four goals, but it could have been more on another day and supporters will enter the international break with an increased level of optimism about the rest of the season.

Sadio Mane returned to the starting eleven and his influence was clear to everybody watching. Liverpool are a much better team when he is on the pitch and they were a lot more dangerous on the counter-attack with both Mane and Mohamed Salah on the pitch. They are the two biggest goal threats in the squad, but which one is better to own in Draft Fantasy?

At this stage, Salah has played more minutes in the Premier League. His current attacking contribution stands at seven goals and two assists, with a goal involvement every 94.9 minutes.

For a player that was written off in England after a poor spell at Chelsea, this has been an incredible impact and he currently ranks as the fourth highest point scorer across all positions in Draft Fantasy, with 76.

There is an expectation that he will continue to score regular points, even if his goal involvement does get slightly worse as the season progresses. He averages 3.81 shots and 1.69 chances created per ninety minutes.

These statistics underline his role in the Liverpool team. Jurgen Klopp expects Salah to be a goal threat rather than a creative force, with Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho taking that mantle.

On the opposite flank, Mane operates with similar instructions, but on Saturday, his creativity showed, as he got two assists. That took his season contribution up to three goals and two assists, with a goal involvement every 88.4 minutes, which is fractionally better than Salah.

However, when looking at his underlying stats, Mane isn’t as productive as Salah. He is averaging 2.88 shots and 1.23 chances created per ninety minutes. His shot accuracy of 50% is also lower than the Egyptian who hits 70% of his shots on target.

The fact that his goal involvement per minute is lower than his team-mates, but his underlying stats appear worse suggests that the quality of his end product is better. However, this can’t be proved until a bigger sample size has been collected.

In terms of who is the better player to own in Draft Fantasy, they are both excellent options as they are the biggest goal threats in the top-six team. They will both get opportunities in the final third and they have too much quality not to accrue regular Draft Fantasy points.

Salah’s current ranking in the game may lead many to thinking he is the better option, but there is every chance that Mane outperforms him over the rest of the season.
